I have been teaching high school for 25 years, and like most teachers, I find it incredibly frustrating when my students look bored. Worse yet, when they say they’re bored.
I’ve spent my entire career finding engagement and motivational strategies that work and abandoning lessons that don’t work, even if they seemed great to me.
As a result, my students say that they are almost never bored in my class. I’m proud of that — and of my students’ performance on AP tests, as well as state and national competitions. But I’m not satisfied, not until I’m never boring.
I’ll use this blog to talk about engagement and motivation strategies that work – as well as other issues facing teachers, students and everyone who cares about education today. Contact me with ideas and suggestions – or to find out how I can collaborate with you. Martha.Rush@neverbore.org
